A Dog Sits Waiting
By Kathy Flood

A dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun,
Too faithful to leave,  too frightened to run.
He's been here for days now with nothing to do
But sit by the road,  waiting for you.
He can't understand why you left him that day
He thought you and he were stopping to play.
He's sure you'll come back, and that's why he stays
How long will he suffer:  How many more days?
His legs have grown weak, his throat's parched and dry
He's sick now from hunger and falls with a sigh.
He lays down his head and closes his eyes
I wish you could see how a waiting dog dies.

Our Mission:

It is our mission to ensure that in the Southern States of the United States animal welfare laws meet the needs of animals.
To encourage law enforcement officials to enforce existing animal welfare laws, to highlight and prevent cruelty to animals, and to monitor and assist shelters in their efforts to care and provide for the animals.

No More Homeless Pets

A portion of the fees collected for this plate go into a special account at the S.C. Department of Agriculture for the support of annual spaying and neutering programs.

For every new plate that is sold, SCDMV transfers $61.53 to the S.C. Department of Agriculture . For every plate renewal, they transfer $66.02.

The fee for this special plate is $70.00 in addition to the regular vehicle registration fee, every other year.

At last check, the current amount received for this spay neuter program is not nearly enough. There is a need for more people to participate, because each year cats and dogs are allowed to breed, there will be more to spay and neuter.

If you start with two adult cats that breed and have 7 kittens that go without being spayed or neutered, within the next 7 years they will have produced 420,000 more kittens.

The same with dogs, if you start with two adult dogs that breed and have 6 puppies that go without being spayed or neutered, within the next 6 years they will have produced 67,000 more puppies.

We at the S.A.W.L. are asking you to please support this cause, we would like to see these tags on more cars throughout S.C. Look at it this way, by supporting this cause it will save tax payers in the long run. Your taxes fund Shelters, Pounds and Humane Societies through out S.C. Your taxes even support the euthanasia of 84% of all animals going into these facilities.

This tag is a great way for you to help with the pet over population in S.C. and you only need to do it once, every other year.

By helping some one who couldn't afford to get their animal spayed or neutered, you are helping to prevent the deaths of thousands of animals who die each year in shelters and pounds by euthanasia, hit by cars, abandoned left to starve or even at the hands of an owner who didn't want another litter but could not afford to have their pet spayed.

We are a 501 (C) (3) Non-Profit that is a 100% all Volunteer Organization.

We are not equipped to be a rescue.  We have no facilities to care for unwanted animals.
